The virtue of seeking knowledge

The virtue of seeking knowledge

By science, nations evolve, morality becomes better, minds be opened, and Humans are being shifted from the darkness to light. Allah SWT states in the Quran

“اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ * خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ * اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ * الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ * عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ”

“Recite in the name of your Lord who created- Created man from a clinging substance- Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous- Who taught by the pen- Taught man that which he knew not.”

Allah SWT ordered our prophet Muhammad and his Ummah (nation) to read, to meditate, and to seek for knowledge.

By science, the Islamic nation breaks out and back to its era of strength, the era of the prophet Muhammad and the companions. Many of the great verses motivate on learning, and talk about the importance of seeking knowledge, Allah SWT says

“وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا”

“and say, My Lord, increase me in knowledge”

What a great virtue when Allah increases His slave with knowledge which is better than increasing him in money and gain power. Knowledge as an obligatory rule is the reason to earn money, superiority, dignity, and progress. The worsen in both culture and morality of the nation is due to our ignorance of seeking knowledge and the lack of our knowledge of the Islamic subjects which is compulsory for every Muslim, are those who know equal to those who do not know, Allah SWT says,

“قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ”

“say, are those who know equal to those who do not know?”

Also, there are many Hadeeth motivate on the importance of seeking knowledge and the rank of who asking for it,

on the authority of Abu Hurairah- May Allah be blessed with him- the prophet- peace and blessings be upon him- said,

“Allah makes the way to Jannah easy for him who treads the path in search of knowledge”. Imam Muslim

The prophet affirms that seeking knowledge is an obligatory upon every Muslim, as he said- peace and blessings be upon him-

“طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم”

“Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim.”

To affirm that seeking knowledge is obligatory and who dismisses it is a sinner and will be punished on his ignorance, if he is able to learn and did not do it.

Science is the reason of honoring all who seek to learn it, in addition to that all scholars who served the Islamic and Arabic sciences are basically non-Arabs and non-Arab Salafists such as imam Albukhary, Muslim, Alturmizzi, Alkhalil ibn Ahmad, Sibaweeh, and others of the salaf`s scholars, also there are of the contemporary non-Arab scholars who served the Islamic sciences like sheikh Al-Albany, Abu-l`ala Almaudody, and others. This indicates that leadership of the Islamic sciences is not limited to the Arabs only. Rather, it is obligatory on every Muslim to learn the Islamic sciences and its branches like Aqeeda (creed), tafseer (explanation of the Quran), hadeeth (sayings of the prophet), seerah (the biography of the prophet), fiqh (jurisprudence), and others

In conclusion, we ask Allah Almighty to give us sincerity in seeking knowledge and raise our degrees as promised in the verse;

“يَرْفَعِ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ”

“Allah will raise those of you who believe and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do”
